SUMMARY:Solar Eclipse 101 with Dr. Hook
DESCRIPTION:All ages are welcome to learn more about the upcoming solar eclipse. \nOur presenter\, Dr. Hook\, teaches General Physics\, AP Physics\, Solar System Astronomy\, and Galactic Astronomy classes at the Indiana Academy for Science\, Mathematics\, and Humanities. She received her B.S. degree in 2010 from Ball State University in Physics with minors in Astronomy and Geology. Her master’s thesis focused on the use of an Echelle spectrograph\, describing and conducting data analysis on the accretion disc of the binary star system X Persei. \nShe completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Physics Education from Purdue University. Dr. Hook has published in journals such as Planetary and Space Science Journal and the Journal of the Southern Association for Research in Astronomy. She has presented research at the 39th Annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in 2007 and participated in poster sessions of her research at the American Astronomical Society (AAS): Division for Planetary Sciences Meeting in 2008 and the American Astronomical Society / American Association of Physics Teachers Joint Meeting in 2006. \nFree! SUMMARY:Bike to Kite Ride
DESCRIPTION:The Bike to Kite Fly ride routes nine miles to the Wayne County Fairgrounds. At Fairgrounds we may pick up more bicyclists and ride back to Elstro Plaza catching a bit of the Cardinal Greenway. \nThe bike ride is free as its sponsors make this a community event that all can take part. Ride is a nine mile route and a somewhat easy one only having 2 hills. The route takes a mix of city streets\, some turf\, and paved bike paths. Riders need helmets\, and water. \nAll riders can move at their own pace and are not required to complete the route. A sag driver with a trailer or pick-up truck will aid any in need with a free ride back to start at Elstro as well as Fairgrounds. There’s a 9:30 a.m. social hour at Elstro Plaza with free coffee\, tea\, hot cocoa\, and cookies for the first twelve to arrive.
