If I have an emergency while visiting the area, how do I get help?
Throughout the Wayne County and Richmond area, call 9-1-1 for immediate threats to life or property. You can also text 9-1-1 from your cell phone if you are unable to make a phone call. Make sure you know your address, location, or nearest intersection to assist in getting the appropriate responders to you.
What is the non-emergency number for public safety in the area?

(765) 973-9355 Wayne County Sheriff’s Department (outside of Richmond City limits)
(There are several other small town law enforcement agencies however all local numbers ring into the consolidated dispatch center at the above number)

How can I receive emergency alerts for the area while I’m in town?
Wayne County Emergency Management Agency utilizes an opt-in service from Everbridge/Nixle. Visit it here to see updates or text the zip code “47374” to 888777.
Will my cell service be affected?
Cell service could easily be affected during specific times of the event, especially in more densely populated areas of users. Texting requires less bandwidth than voice calls or data services and is an alternate option if service is affected.
Where can or can’t I park to view the eclipse in the area?
There are several designated eclipse viewing areas throughout Wayne County. As a reminder, plan in advance to find a suitable location to park and watch the event. Be patient when searching for a place to park. Do not pull off the side of a roadway to view the eclipse as it could impede traffic and is very unsafe. Please do not park on privately owned land (empty lots or farm fields) unless arrangements have been made with the owner of the property.
How can I keep my children safe? What if we get separated?
Have a family communication plan when attending any large gathering, to ensure you know where to meet up if you get separated from friends or family. Make sure children have identification with your contact information with them in case you are separated. See ready.gov/plan for more information.

April weather in Indiana is volatile and have wild temperature extremes. In the days leading up to the event, please visit the National Weather Service, Wilmington Ohio’s office which covers our area in Indiana.
Who can I call or what website can I go to get current traffic information?
Please DO NOT call 9-1-1 or non-emergency numbers for public safety to obtain traffic information. Indiana Department of Transportation has an interactive website that provides real-time traffic information and webcams at 511in.org.
