Solar Eclipse 201: Safely See the Partial Eclipse

October 13, 2023 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Want to get a safe and close-up view of the sun in preparation for our upcoming eclipses? Come on out to Elstro Plaza to use a telescope during the day to view the sun! This unique opportunity will give you an opportunity to see sunspots firsthand.
Astronomer Dr. Wes Tobin will demonstrate safe sun viewing in preparation for eclipses. You will have a chance to ask questions, and each participant will leave with a pair of eclipse glasses. Participants may also be interested in our earlier program “Solar Eclipse 101 with IU East Astronomer Dr. Wes Tobin” on Oct. 11 from 6-7 p.m. at the Library.

About the presenter

Wes Tobin is a Professor at Indiana University East. His research areas include observing and modeling eclipsing binary stars. His degrees are from Ball State, Iowa State and Indiana State. This program is provided in collaboration with Indiana University East, Richmond Parks and Recreation and Wayne County and Tourism Bureau.
